Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], October 26 (ANI): In a major breakthrough, Mumbai Police in a joint operation with Punjab Police has apprehended Sujeet Sushil Singh, a resident of Mumbai, wanted in the high profile murder of Baba Siddique.
“Sujeet was involved in the murder conspiracy and was informed about the plan to kill Baba Siddique three days in advance by Nitin Gautan Sapre-another accused. He also provided logistical assistance,” DGP Punjab police Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday in a post on X.
Singh has been handed over to Mumbai Police for further investigation, the Punjab DGP said.
Meanwhile, nine people arrested in the Baba Siddiqui murder case were on Friday presented before a court in Mumbai which extended their police remand till October 26.
Nine accused, who were arrested on various dates, were produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Esplanade Court) V R Patil, after after their police custody came to an end today.
The nine accused were Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), Dharmaraj Kashyap (21), Harish Kumar Nisad (26), Pravin Lonkar (30), Nitin Gautam Sapre (32), Sambhaji Kisan Pardhi (44), Pradeep Dattu Thombre (37), Chetan Dilip Pardhi and Ram Fulchand Kanoujia (43).
Police sought an extension of remand by three days, however, the court extended it by one day till today
Baba Siddiqui, the NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead by three shooters on October 12 near his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai.
Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang has claimed responsibility for the murder.
Earlier police said that the three suspected shooters allegedly involved in the Baba Siddiqui murder were in contact with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi, through Snapchat, before executing the shooting of the NCP leader.
Former MLA and NCP leader Siddique sustained gunshot wounds to the chest after being shot at outside his office in Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai. He was taken to the city’s Lilavati Hospital for emergency treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on October 12. (ANI)
